1.2 Tools and Materials
Prepare tools such as a tape measure, utility knife, rubber roller, and pressure roller. If the tape is made of butyl rubber (e.g., Ruide R8445A Expanding Tape), wear anti-adhesive gloves during operation to avoid direct skin contact with the adhesive layer.
2. Key Construction Steps
2.1 Precise Cutting
According to the length of the joint or the width of the crack, use a utility knife to cut the tape to a size that extends 5-10 cm beyond the edge of the defect. Butyl rubber tape has good ductility and can be slightly stretched to fit curved surfaces, but excessive stretching (which may thin the adhesive layer) should be avoided.
2.2 Peeling and Application
Slowly peel off the release film on the surface of the tape, start applying it along the center line of the joint from one end, and press it synchronously with your fingers or a pressure roller to ensure full contact between the tape and the base layer. For vertical surface construction, it is recommended to adopt a top-to-bottom application sequence to reduce the impact of gravity.
2.3 Enhanced Sealing
Use a rubber roller to repeatedly roll the surface of the tape in a "cross" (well-shaped) path to expel internal air and enhance adhesion. Focus on compressing the edge areas; if necessary, apply a matching sealant for secondary sealing. For multi-layer tapes (e.g., aluminum foil-reinforced type), ensure there are no air bubbles between layers.
3. Environmental Control and Precautions
3.1 Temperature Management
The construction environment temperature shall be controlled between 5-40℃. When the temperature is below 5℃, a heat gun can be used to preheat the tape and base layer to above 10℃; when the temperature exceeds 40℃, construct in the morning or evening and avoid direct sunlight.
3.2 Curing and Maintenance
The tape needs to stand for 24 hours to complete initial curing, and it will reach optimal performance after 72 hours. During the curing period, avoid contact with water or mechanical external forces; for humid environments, the curing time can be extended to 48 hours.
3.3 Handling of Special Scenarios
Pipe Joints: Adopt the "spiral winding method" for construction, with an overlap width of no less than 50% of the tape width at each layer, and fix the end with a hose clamp.
Expansion Joints: Reserve a 3-5 mm expansion allowance and use an "I-shaped" application method to enhance deformation resistance.
Metal Roofs: A metal-specific primer must be applied first to avoid electrochemical corrosion.
4. Quality Inspection and Maintenance
4.1 Visual Inspection
Check if the tape surface is flat and the edges are tightly sealed; there shall be no defects such as blisters or curling. A strong light can be used for side illumination to check for internal hollowing.
4.2 Water Tightness Test
For areas with high waterproof requirements (e.g., water tanks, bathrooms), a 48-hour water tightness test shall be conducted, with a water level of no less than 30 mm. Check if there is leakage at the corresponding position downstairs.
4.3 Regular Maintenance
It is recommended to inspect once a year, focusing on vulnerable parts such as internal and external corners and joints. If the tape is found to be aged or cracked, cut it off and replace it with new tape, ensuring an overlap width of no less than 10 cm.
5. Supplementary Notes on Brand Technical Features
Ruide Waterproof Tape (e.g., R8445A Expanding Tape) adopts a butyl rubber composite structure, with the following characteristics:
Self-Healing Function: The adhesive layer can self-heal after puncture, suitable for dynamic crack repair.
Weather Resistance: It can withstand extreme temperatures from -35℃ to 75℃ and has a service life of over 10 years under UV irradiation.
Environmental Certification: It has passed the EU RoHS certification, with no solvent volatilization, and can be used in scenarios where it contacts drinking water.
During construction, strictly follow the technical parameters on the product packaging. For complex projects, it is recommended to contact Ruide Technical Support (400-XXX-XXXX) for a customized plan. For large-area waterproof projects, it is advisable to match it with Ruide's supporting waterproof coating to form a composite waterproof layer for better protection.
